Smith takes goal honours but salutes his team-mate

Tommy Smith has hailed the impact made by Christophe Berra at Town after pipping the Scotland international in their own personal battle.

New Zealand international Tommy grabbed his sixth goal of the season in the 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday last weekend to finish Blues’ third highest scorer of the campaign behind David McGoldrick and Daryl Murphy.

His close range finish against the Owls also saw him edge above Christophe’s tally of five goals for the campaign.

“Six is my best return for the season and I’m delighted with that,” Tommy told the Club website.

“We were having our own battle to see who came out on top between Christophe and me so I’m pleased to have got in front of him but on a serious note, he has been fantastic for us.

“He slotted into the team really well and picked up a couple of awards and he deserved them. All credit to him.”

Christophe followed in Tommy’s footsteps from last year by being named 2013/14 Supporters’ Player of the Year and was also the choice of the Corporate Customers, Sponsors and Boxholders.
