BOSS: WE LOOKED MORE LIKELY WINNERS

29 November 2014

Mick hails impact of goalscorer Noel and has praise for his 'proper' defenders

Mick McCarthy had praise for matchwinner Noel Hunt and his defence as Town moved into the automatic promotion places with a last minute win at Charlton.

Noel marked his debut for Blues, after joining the Club on loan from Leeds, with a dramatic winner to give Town the points and end the Addicks’ unbeaten home record.

“It’s a great way to start for Noel and we’re obviously delighted for him,” said the Town boss.

“I have always admired him and the way he has gone about his job and thought if we could get him going again, we have a player on our hands.

“I can’t say we played Charlton off the park. We didn’t. They were better in the first-half and we had to defend well and make some good saves but we did that well. We’ve got proper defenders who get their bodies in the way.

“The sun had a big effect on the game. It made it difficult to even head the ball in  the first-half but  I thought we shaded it in the second-half.

“In the last 15 minutes, I think we looked the more likely to get the goal and it was a great way to finish the game.”
