KEEPER DILEMMA FOR BOSS

17 November 2014

Gerks or Bart - cherry pick headache for Mick ahead of top four clash

Mick McCarthy admits he faces a selection headache ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bournemouth - but a welcome one.

Dean Gerken has missed the last three matches - including the win over Watford - after pulling up with a groin injury sustained in the pre-match warm-up before the Blackpool game at the start of the month.

Bart Bialkowski came in for his Town League debut at Bloomfield Road and has kept two clean sheets in those three games after joining the Club from Notts County in the summer but now faces competition from a fit again Gerks for the visit to the Goldsands Stadium.

“I knew we had an outstanding ‘keeper in Bart,” Mick told the Club website.

“He has been frustrated because he couldn’t get in the team. Now he’s in and he has done great for us.

“When Gerks is fit - and he should be okay for Saturday - then it gives me a problem but it’s a nice problem to have.”

Cole Skuse, who also missed the win over Watford with a groin injury, should be available to face the Cherries but Jonny Williams has been ruled out for a month with a groin problem.

Town will be backed by a travelling support of 1300 for the top four clash at the Goldsands, where a win could lift Blues to the top of the Championship.
