MATCH PREVIEW: TOWN V BLACKBURN

17 October 2014

Mick gives us an update from the treatment room and expresses his delight at seeing Chambo extend his stay

Mick McCarthy has an injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s home date with Blackburn Rovers.

Daryl Murphy has been ruled out of the fixture after picking up an injury whilst on international duty, Teddy Bishop is struggling through illness whilst Jonny Williams will be assessed for an ankle injury.

“We will wait and see but I think Murph will be struggling for tomorrow,” Mick told the Club website.

“Jonny has a chance and we will wait on him, Teddy Bishop has been ill so he’s struggling too. That’s the rigours of international football and it’s not ideal but there’s nothing we can do about it.

“Martin O’Neill phoned me and put Murph on the phone to explain he had picked up an injury. Martin was apologetic to me and I told him not to worry about it as I’ve been there myself.

“I’ve been in his shoes and its never nice telling a club manager that one of his players has got injured on international duty- but that’s part of the gig. I’m cool with it.

Meanwhile the boss has spoken of his delight at seeing captain Luke Chambers commit his future to Town until 2017.

“It’s great to see Chambo stay, I think it’s brilliant,” added the gaffer.

“For me, Chambo has been outstanding whether at right-back or at centre-back and he’s got a good partnership going with Christophe [Berra] at the moment.

“He’s a big character in the dressing-room and he’s enjoying his football here, which is what we want. I’m delighted with the news.”

Live commentary of the game will be available on Ipswich Player from 3pm, with live text commentary and exclusive Town team news available via the Ipswich Wall from around 1.30pm.

Team news

As mentioned above, Town will wait on the fitness of injured trio Daryl Murphy, Jonny Williams and Ted Bishop ahead of the game with Rovers, whilst Luke Hyam looks set to miss out after picking up a knock against Nottingham Forest. Jack Collison has been named in the squad for the first time since joining Blues, whilst Darren Ambrose and Stephen Hunt could also be involved.

Rovers could include former Town loanee Ryan Tunnicliffe in their ranks, as he prepares to revisit Portman Road for the second time. The midfielder recently netted his first goal for the Club against Watford. Another former Blue, Jordan Rhodes, is expected to lead the line for Blackburn.

Ryan Tunnicliffe: “I’ve got great memories from my time at Ipswich and it will be good to see a few familiar faces. I’ve got a lot of respect for the gaffer there and loved working under him. I’ll be up against my mates on Saturday so I suppose it will make me more determined, as I want to have the bragging rights come the final whistle.”
