Murph and Didz are as good as any partnership in the Championship says Mick after Lions tamed

Mick McCarthy hailed Daryl Murphy and David McGoldrick as among the best strike partnerships in the Championship.

The duo, who shared close on 30 goals last season, both got on the scoresheet to give Blues a 2-0 win over Millwall at Portman Road.

“As a partnership, they are as good as any in the Championship without a doubt,” Mick told the Club website.

“They are a handful for any team. They have both got goals in them. You can have partnerships that are a handful, where the players are big, strong and resolute. They can run in channels and make chances for other people. Our two do all that and score goals.”

Mick also had praise for Teddy Bishop and Tyrone Mings after what he felt was a deserved three points.

“We got let off the hook when they hit the bar but it was a terrific goal from Didz and I felt we deserved the win after that,” added the boss.

“Bish was knackered when we took him off. He’s a proper player though. He glides past players and sees a pass as well.

“Leaving Luke Hyam and Tommy Smith out was among the hardest decisions I’ve had to do here but I wanted to get Tyrone in the team and he was unbelievable. He showed why there is so much interest in him.”
