Knee injury sees defender miss out on opportunity to take on World Cup winners

Christophe Berra has been pulled out of the Scotland squad after sustaining a knee injury in Saturday’s draw at Derby.

The 29-year-old defender has remained at the Club to receive treatment, including having an injection in his knee to ease the discomfort.

The injury means Christophe misses out on the opportunity of adding to his 28 caps when Scotland take on World Cup winners Germany in their opening 2016 European Championship qualifier in Dortmund on Sunday.

Meanwhile Daryl Murphy is in the Republic of Ireland squad for their friendly against Oman in Dublin tonight, with the Irish also in European Championship action against Georgia on Sunday.

Conor Sammon, who was named in the provisional squad for the Republic, is on standby for both games.

Elliott Hewitt, who missed Saturday’s draw at Derby through injury, has joined up with the Wales U21 squad for their final 2015 European Championship qualifiers against Finland on Friday and Lithuania next Tuesday, both games on away soil.
