Hunty on target as Ambrose and Collison line-up for Blues

Stephen Hunt stepped up his recovery from injury with a goal in Town U21s' draw with Sheffield Wednesday at Portman Road.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has not featured for the first-team this season after sustaining a calf injury in July, gave Blues the lead early in the second-half before Mani Dieseruvwe levelled the scores soon after.

Jack Collison and Darren Ambrose, who are both training with Town as they look for new clubs played the 90 minutes for a Blues’ side that also included Tyrone Mings, Alex Henshall and Bart Bialkowski.

Town started brightly with Darren McQueen dragging his shot wide of the right post after bursting into the box.

Bialkowski was called into action soon after, confidently collecting Rafa Floro’s long-range free-kick which bounced up off the wet surface.

Town kept pushing for an opener, Henshall making a strong run through the middle before seeing his shot well saved by Joe Wildsmith.

Blues went in front just before the hour mark, Ambrose rolled the ball into the path of Hunt from a free-kick and the midfielder’s strike went through the wall and found the net.

The lead lasted less than 10 minutes, Dieseruvwe’s shot deflected off Matt Clarke and wrong-footing Bialkowski.

Franck Betra then threatened a winner, with Bialkowski producing a good save low to his left to block the shot and earn Blues a point.
