I want to keep the young, exciting players says boss after Blues reject Premier League bid for defender

Tyrone Mings is set to be offered a new contract by Town with boss Mick McCarthy seeing the defender as an exciting part of the Club’s future.

The 21-year-old was targeted by Crystal Palace on transfer window day but Club owner Marcus Evans rejected a substantial bid from the Premier League club to keep Tyrone at Portman Road.

“We have discussed the possibility, rather the certainty should I say of giving Tyrone a new contract and that will be the case,” Mick told the Club website.

“That is the reward for getting in the team and doing well.

“Neither Marcus, nor I wanted him to go. We want him here for the long term.

“I want to keep my best players. I want to keep the young, exciting players and Ty is one of them.

“When you look at Saturday and see Tyrone and Alex Henshall working really well down the left side, that is a really exciting partnership if we can get them playing like that every week.”

Subscribers to Ipswich Player can watch the full interview with Mick now, with the boss talking about the support he will get from the owner when the loan window opens.
