Striker beats the clock and will be involved at Ewood Park

Mick McCarthy has said Noel Hunt’s return to fitness is unbelievable, with the striker set to be included in the squad for Saturday’s trip to Blackburn.

The Republic of Ireland international was expected to miss the rest of the season after sustaining knee ligament damage in the win at Fulham in February but is way ahead of schedule and has trained this week.

“Noel is fine and he will be involved on Saturday,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“He is in good shape. It’s unbelievable what he has done to get back. He has shown a voracious appetite for work and to get himself back involved.

“Lots of players would not have been fit by the end of the season but he set himself that target and is weeks ahead of where he should have been.

“It was a nasty injury but he has shown professionalism, a diligence and a great attitude.”

Jay Tabb has recovered from the illness that kept him out of the win over Forest last weekend but Town are waiting on Richard Chaplow, who is hoping to train on Friday after being sidelined with a groin problem.

Luke Varney will definitely miss the game at Ewood Park under the terms of his loan from Blackburn.
