Mick relishes trip to Manchester United after win over Doncaster

Mick McCarthy felt Town fully deserved a place in the third round of the Capital One Cup and welcomed a fantastic visit to Manchester United at the next stage.

Blues will travel to Old Trafford, probably on September 22 or 23 after overcoming  Doncaster 4-1 after extra-time.

James Alabi scored on his debut, with Brett Pitman, David McGoldrick and Ryan Fraser also on target.

“It’s a fabulous draw,” said the Town boss. “I don’t mind travelling to that one. I thought we might get someone away from League Two when we have to travel miles and the pressure is on but that’s a great trip to make.

“I’m pleased for the fans as well. Over 700 have made it to Doncaster tonight so that’s a great draw for them. I’m sure they will look forward to it.

“I said that I would play the kids whoever we played but I might have to think again now! I’ll have Bish back and Kevin Bru and a few others. We will have a stronger squad and we will see where we are when that game comes around.”

Blues had to come from behind to set up that Old Trafford trip, with Mick saying: “We deserved the win.

“We started well but made the cardinal sin of giving away free-kicks. They had a good spell but once we were level, I felt we were the better team.

“I was delighted to see Didz score and you could see the frustration disappear from him after that and he set up Ryan for the fourth.

“James Alabi will be better for his goal. He is raw but he has got talent. He is strong and pacy. He just needs to celebrate with his team-mates and not in front of no-one!”
