Striker Alabi delighted to mark debut with a goal and a win as the Blues book meeting with Manchester United in the next round
James Alabi was all smiles after helping Town defeat Doncaster Rovers and book a third round meeting with Manchester United.
The striker marked his Blues debut with a goal, after coming off the bench as Town defeated Rovers 4-1 after extra time.
The hosts went in front in the first-half but Mick McCarthy’s side replied through Brett Pitman before David McGoldrick, Alabi and Ryan Fraser sealed the win.
“It was a great debut for me personally but all the lads have done well tonight to come from behind and win the game,” the former Stoke striker told Ipswich Player HD.
“Doncaster made us work hard for the win tonight but we showed good character and deserved it in the end.
“The fans have made a long trip and I’m just pleased we’ve sent them home happy.
“The gaffer has given the young lads a chance tonight and that’s one of the main reasons I joined Ipswich, because he does show that belief.
“I’m delighted to score and it was a poacher’s finish really. Hopefully that can be the first of many when I’m given a chance. I just promise to work hard and see where it takes me and, of course, the Club.”
