New Blue impresses boss as Town finish summer campaign

Mick McCarthy was pleased with the display against FC Utrecht in Town’s final warm-up game - and delighted with the arrival of Jonas Knudsen into his squad.

The Blues’ fans got their first look at the Danish international as a second-half substitute in a game that saw David McGoldrick cancel out Sebastien Haller’s opener with a last minute penalty at Portman Road.

“It was a bit of magic from Didz for the penalty and we deserved to draw the game,” Mick told Ipswich Player HD.

“I was pleased with the performance and I thought Jonas was excellent for us. Yes, he’s got a long throw but he’s got a lot more to his game than that.

“TC, Dave Bowman [director of football] and Jordan Miles [performance analyst] spotted him on Wyscout and we were aware there was a buy-out clause in his contract.

“TC was big on him and said he was worth a look and watched him but it wasn’t a great game.

“We wanted another look and rather than TC watching him once and me watching him one, it’s better if the same person watches him twice so TC went.

“In that game he did everything we wanted of him. TC said he’s one for us and I’ll back him all the way. It looks like he’s right!”

Mick also confirmed that Larsen Toure and Giles Coke will be joining the Club.
