Aussie delight at joining 'ambitious Town'

Town have completed the signing of Australian international Tommy Oar on a two year deal.

The 23-year-old winger joins as a free agent after coming to the end of his contract at FC Utrecht.

Tommy was at Portman Road this morning for a medical and to complete the paperwork, with the deal also including a 12 month extension option.

He spent five years with Utrecht and clocked up more than 100 appearances for them after joining from Brisbane Roar.

“It’s a perfect move for me,” Tommy told the Club website. “I’ve spoken to Mick McCarthy a few times and I can tell it is a club with ambition.

“Moving to England was always my preferred option and when a club likes Ipswich comes up, it’s going be a great opportunity for me and I’m delighted that is has worked out.

“I watched Ipswich play a few times on TV last year and the team had a great year. I’m just looking forward to being involved here now and helping the team try to get in the Premier League.”

Tommy will be on international duty over the next week with Australia facing Bangladesh and Tajikstan in their 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

Ipswich Player HD spoke to the wide man before he headed back to join up with the Socceroos. The full interview will be available next week.
