Striker caps off new contract with goal and three points as Town move to the top of the Championship table

Town striker Freddie Sears labelled the win over Burnley as ‘the perfect night’ for him, after signing a new contract before the game.

The striker extended his stay at Portman Road until 2019 ahead of kick-off, before going on to score the first goal of the game as Town won 2-0, with David McGoldrick also on target.

“Signing a new deal before the game was nice but the main thing was winning tonight and we’re now top of the league,” the striker told Ipswich Player HD.

“It’s good to get the contract signed, as we’ve been in talks for a while now. It’s nice to get my future sorted and commit myself to such a fantastic club, so I’m delighted.

“It’s the perfect night really. Signing a new deal, winning the game, scoring a goal and moving top of the league- it doesn’t get much better than that!

“The lads all played their part and it’s a happy dressing-room. The work starts again now though and we will all be focusing on another tough game against Preston on Saturday.”
