Town have agreed to sign Jonathan Douglas from Championship rivals Brentford on a free transfer.

The midfielder, who skippered the Bees last term and scored against Town at Portman Road in March, has agreed a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 month stay.

The Irishman will add plenty of Football League experience to the squad and although a central midfielder, he can also operate on the left-hand side.

Jonathan helped Brentford reach the Championship Play-Offs last term under Mark Warburton, as well as earning promotion from League One the season prior.

The midfielder began his career at Blackburn, progressing through the Academy at Ewood Park, and featuring in the Premier League.

Has also represented Leeds and Swindon, as well as taking in loan spells at Chesterfield, Blackpool and Gillingham.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has eight international caps to his name, makes the switch to Portman Road after ending his stay at Griffin Park where he had made over 150 appearances since signing for Brentford in 2011.

Incidentally, Jonathan, who will wear the number 22 shirt, could make his Blues bow at Griffin Park against his former side on the opening day of the season.
