BOSS: NOTHING IN IT

19 December 2015

Mick happy with display against a Derby side that he tips for promotion

Mick McCarthy was pleased with the performance but disappointed to see Town go down to a team that he considers in the best two in the Championship.

A first-half goal from Tom Ince settled a tight contest in Derby’s favour and strengthened their claims for automatic promotion.

“I was delighted with our performance against a very good team who have been put together at great expense,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“There was nothing in it but we let our guard down once for the goal. It was border line offside and they got a lucky bounce for the ball to Ince and I think his shot took a deflection but that’s the way it goes. We will get our bit of luck along the way sometime as well.

“Overall it was a good display but the result was obviously disappointing. We shouldn’t have lost that game.

“We just couldn’t provide that bit of quality to get us back in the game, or that bit of luck perhaps.

“You have to give them credit though. I will be very surprised if any team finishes above Derby and Middlesbrough. They have the best squads and they have the resources to strengthen again in January if they want to.”
