Deserved win says Mick and he hails matchwinner Brett

Mick McCarthy felt Town were worthy winners as goals from Freddie Sears and Brett Pitman kept Blues in the top six with victory at Craven Cottage.

Town made a blistering start with Sears’ strike after 16 seconds and Pitman won the game in the second-half after Ross McCormack had levelled before the break.

“I thought we were quality tonight and we definitely deserved the three points,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“We had a lot of possession and loads of chances but we let them off the hook with their goal from a free-kick.

“I said at half-time that it would be who was the most ruthless because the game had become open and we weren’t quite finding that final pass or cross.

“We did that in the second-half and it was a great goal to win from Pits. He has had toothache all week and hasn’t trained since the weekend. He had root canal treatment and has been in a lot of pain but he epitomised the spirit in the squad by going out there and playing like he did.

“Searsy was outstanding as well and we look a real threat going forward.”
