GERKS HAPPY TO STAY IN SHADE

1 December 2015

Keeper keen to stay under radar ahead of another TV date for Blues

Dean Gerken is happy to stay in the shade and let his team-mates take the limelight as Town look forward to another date on live TV this Friday.

High-flying Middlesbrough are the visitors to Portman Road in a game covered on Sky TV, with a point for Mick McCarthy’s side enough to take Blues into the Play-Off places.

The Town ‘keeper produced three brilliant saves in the closing stages of the win over Charlton on Saturday in a game also covered live by Sky but it was two goal Daryl Murphy and fellow scorer Freddie Sears who got the headlines after the 3-0 win.

“That’s fine with me,” Gerks, who was voted Player of the Month by the Town fans in October, told the Club website.

“If a ‘keeper doesn’t get mentioned too much, it means we are doing a good job. Normally if you do get mentioned, it’s when things aren’t going so well.

“I’m happy to stay under the radar and let the strikers and the wingers get the plaudits. That’s how I like it.”

Gerks is expecting Town to face a big challenge against Boro on Friday night as Blues look to make it seven games unbeaten and break into the Play-Off places for the first time since the end of September.

“They are a quality side and have carried on from last year,” added the Town No.1.

“They have got some top players and have added to that with the players they have brought in this year.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game for us but we are in decent form ourselves and will go into the game with confidence.”

The match kicks off at 7.45pm. Click here to purchase tickets.
