OUTSTANDING DISPLAY SAYS BOSS

29 December 2015

Mick thrilled with deserved win at the Amex as Town open up one gap and close another

Mick McCarthy felt Town were deserved winners at Brighton after what he described as an outstanding performance

Daryl Murphy scored at the Amex for the fourth successive game as Town equalled a Club record with a fifth straight away win.

“We got it tactically right and maybe we caught them out a bit by playing the formation we did,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD after the 1-0 win took Blues four points clear in sixth place.

“I thought we played very well. It was a terrific performance and we deserved the win.

“I didn’t see Gerks having to make save after save but their ‘keeper was busy and we hit the post and the bar and could have had more than then one goal.

“The players all did their jobs very well and it was another great win for us against a good team.

“I keep saying it’s where we are in May that counts so I’m not looking into the gap below us too much, though I’d rather have it than not but what we have done is close the gap on the teams above us.”

Blues are now a point below fifth placed Burnley ahead of Saturday’s trip to Turf Moor and four below Brighton in fourth and Hull in third.
