Valiant display from young Blues but Liverpool show their Premier League quality to win 2-1 in the third round

Town’s U18s were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup at the third round stage last night, defeated 2-1 by Liverpool at Langtree Park.

The Blues put in a fine display but ultimately the quality of the Premier League side shone through.

The hosts took an early lead through Adam Phillips with just three minutes on the clock but Town hit back soon after with Sam Ford firing home the rebound from a Ben Morris shot that had been saved.

Andre Dozzell made his return from injury and went close to putting the Blues in front, but he saw his effort cannon back off the bar midway through the first-half.

Liverpool’s Toni Gomes then hit the decisive blow, netting what proved to be the winner after 26 minutes as the Premier League side progressed to the fourth round at Town’s expense.

Highlights of the clash will be shown on Ipswich Player HD later this week.
