Mick delighted to snap up striker as long term interest pays off

Mick McCarthy says Chris Wood brings goals with him to Portman Road after the New Zealand international joined Town on loan from Leicester until the end of the season.

The 23-year-old striker trained with his new team-mates this morning and will go straight into the squad for Sunday’s derby at Norwich.

“We have been on the case for a while and got the go-ahead yesterday and we’re delighted to have Chris here,” Mick told the Club website.

“He’s a goalscorer who has ripped up the Championship on occasions. He’s good technically and has a physical presence about him. He’s just a very good all round player.

“I have spoken to Chris and told him that we have the top goalscorer in the Championship in Murph, we’ve got Freddie Sears who is doing well. We’ve also got a lot of games coming up and that it’s unlikely I’d play the same two strikers all the time.

“He just wants an opportunity to show what he can do, to come here and play games and hopefully score some goals.”

Town have been given another boost with the news that Cole Skuse should be fit for Sunday’s game after being forced off against Birmingham on Tuesday with a back problem.

Teddy Bishop is also expected to be okay despite turning his ankle during training this week.
