Boss delighted with Blues after fearing 'it could have been one of those nights'

Mick McCarthy said Town were well worth the three points after seeing his side come from behind to beat Sheffield Wednesday.

Kieran Lee gave the Owls the lead after a mix up in the Town box but goals from Daryl Murphy and Lee Chambers earned Blues a 2-1 victory.

“We deserved the three points and it was a good performance as well,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player.

“It was kamikaze for us after 20 minutes when they scored after a mix-up but we responded well. We hit the post before half-time and had shots saved and it looked like it could have been one of those nights.

“I told the lads at half-time though that if you have that mentality it does end up in one of those nights. That didn’t happen and we were by far the better team in the end.

“It was a great goal by Murph to get us level and the skipper won it with another great goal.

“We made the changes to freshen it up and it did that. We had more zip about us. Darren Ambrose was outstanding and could have scored and Jonny Parr gave us more energy down the left in the second-half.

“It was a big win for us having had the recent results. We’ve been good at home this season and we were again tonight.”
