Mick sets goal 'challenge' for Murph after deserved win for Town at Craven Cottage

Mick McCarthy hailed the victory at Fulham as deserved and challenged matchwinner Daryl Murphy to go on and get 30 goals.

Town’s leading scorer took his tally to 21 for the campaign with a brace in the 2-1 win at Craven Cottage, becoming the first Blue to pass 20 League goals in a season in 15 years.

“I think Freddie [Sears] is claiming the first one but it’s Murph’s goal,” said the Town boss.

“He broke his nose doing it so he deserves it. He’s got 21 but he won’t rest on his laurels, why can’t he go on and get 30 now?

“He played well but so did the team. We deserved the win and played very well, especially in the first-half.

“We had other chances and overall it was a very good performance. They got back in it at the end when they scored and that gave them a lift in confidence but we defended well and got what we deserved, the three points.

“The fans were brilliant again, 4000 of them and I’m sure they will have a good trip home.”
