Millwall midfielder agrees Portman Road loan and could make his debut against Reading tomorrow

  • Town announce second loan of the day
  • Joins from Millwall
  • Has plenty of Championship experience
  • Will wear the number 14 shirt

Richard Chaplow has joined the Blues on an initial month’s loan, with an agreement in place to extend the deal until the end of Town’s season.

The midfielder has been training with Mick McCarthy’s squad this week and has now completed his switch to the Blues from Millwall.

Chaplow, who signs on the same day as Luke Varney, will wear the number 14 shirt for Town and is available for tomorrow’s Portman Road clash with Reading.

Starting his career at Burnley, the Accrington-born midfielder then teamed up with West Brom for a fee of £1.5m in January 2005.

Richard went on to feature for Preston and Southampton- helping the latter earn promotion to both the Championship and the Premier League.

Joined Millwall on a two-year contract after an initial loan spell although is out of contract with the Lions in the summer.

The former England U21 international will now provide competition to the Town midfield for the remainder of the Championship season.
