Goals from McQueen and Patterson ensure Blues tame the Lions at Playford Road

  • Hammond completes 90 minutes
  • Connolly makes first Town outing
  • McQueen and Patterson on target

Town’s U21 Development side ran out 2-1 winners over Millwall at Playford Road, thanks to goals from Darren McQueen and Monty Patterson.

Dylan Connolly was in action for the first time since signing from Shelbourne, completing almost an hour, whilst Kyle Hammond played the 90 minutes since returning from injury.

The visitors started brightly and Michael Crowe had to be alert to push Kyron Farrwell’s corner away from danger inside the opening five minutes.

However Town responded perfectly and broke the deadlock after 10 minutes, McQueen calmly placing the ball into the corner after being sent through on goal.

Cory Galvin – who had come on to replace injured trialist Thomas Wraight after just 16 minutes – was instrumental in Town’s second goal. The midfielder collected the ball before feeding Patterson, who dribbled into the area before placing the ball past Denzel Gemer and into the bottom corner.

Crowe: Solid in goal for young Blues

The visitors were looking for a way back into the game but defensive pairing Omar Sowumni and Joe Robinson both provided vital blocks to spurn the Lions’ attack.

Millwall did halve the deficit after 56 minutes, with Jamie Philpot scoring a back-post header from close range.

Philpot then went close with another header soon after, that Crowe was able to watch wide as Mark Kennedy’s side saw out the game to claim the three points at Playford Road.

TOWN: Crowe, Hammond, Wyatt, Guldbrandsen, Robinson, Sowumni, Connolly (Emmanuel 54), Benyu, McQueen, Patterson (Blanchfield 45), Wraight (Galvin 16). Subs not used: McDermid, Ramadan
