Two-goal hero Daryl Murphy breaks his nose during win over Fulham but admits it was worth it for the three points

  • Striker moves onto 21 for the season
  • Credits his teammates for their performances
  • Salutes the superb support from the Town fans

Daryl Murphy couldn’t hide his delight after his two first-half strikes ensured Town left Craven Cottage with all three points.

The forward netted his 20th and 21st goals of the season as Blues beat Fulham, despite the fact he broke his nose after scoring his first.

“Yeah I broke my nose and I actually didn’t even see the first one go in because of the pain I was in!”Daryl told the official Club website after the game.

“It’s why I was off the pitch for such a long time because I couldn’t stop the bleeding but it was worth it for the three points anyway.

“I was delighted to get a couple of goals today and go past the 20 goal season mark but it’s not about me, it’s about the team and I thought all the boys were brilliant today.

“It was a really good win and we’ve reacted well from last weekend’s defeat to Rotherham by picking up six points this week.

“We’ve got to keep that going and that’s what we will be working towards in training this week.”

The striker also paid homage to the 4,000 Town fans who made the trip to West London to cheer on the boys, describing them as ‘incredible’.

“You can’t knock the fans at all, they were incredible again today as they have been all season to be fair to them,” added Daryl.

“I know London isn’t too far but to come in their numbers and get right behind us was something special and they really played their part.

“The atmosphere was fantastic from behind the goal and it was nice to celebrate the win with them at the end of the game.”
