'Keeper signs new two-year deal with a further year option which sees him remain at Portman Road until 2017

Dean Gerken has penned a new contract at Ipswich Town, keeping him at Portman Road until the summer of 2017.

The stopper, who joined on a free transfer from Bristol City ahead of the 2013/14 season, today put pen to paper on his new deal which also includes a further year’s option.

Town’s number one started the season as Mick McCarthy’s first-choice ‘keeper but an injury in the warm up at Blackpool gave an opportunity to Bartosz Bialkowski, who has remained between the sticks ever since.

Deano, a popular figure around the Club, began his career down the A12 at Colchester United, before moving to Ashton Gate to sign for Bristol City in 2009.

The Rochford-born stopper left the Robins following their relegation to League One, joining Town following a successful trial and the ‘keeper dislodged Scott Loach to become the Blues’ number one in his first season.

Despite falling behind Bart in the pecking order, Dean did put in a fine performance against Southampton last time out as Town held the Premier League side to a 1-1 draw at St Mary’s.
