Christmas victories over Brentford and Charlton see the Blues come out on top with LMA panel

Town have been awarded the LG Performance of the Week, for the Christmas victories over Brentford and Charlton.

The League Managers Association five-man Performance of the Week panel, comprising LMA Chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry, were in agreement that this week the newly sponsored and longstanding LG Performance of the Week Award should go to Ipswich Town following their excellent results over Christmas and New Year.

The experienced and highly distinguished panel has managed a combined total of over 6,000 competitive matches in professional football.

Ipswich manager Mick McCarthy will receive a specially commissioned trophy made by world renowned silversmiths and LMA Partner, Thomas Lyte of London, in a presentation to commemorate the award.

Ipswich enjoyed a very rewarding period in the Sky Bet Championship during which they won their away match 4–2 against promotion rivals Brentford on Boxing Day and followed that two days later with a fine 3–0 home win against Charlton Athletic which took them into one of the automatic promotion places.

Those two league victories were followed by a very creditable 1–1 draw on 4th January in the FA Cup playing away at high-flying Barclays Premier League club Southampton. Ipswich will now have high expectations that they will be able to progress further in the competition.
