Mick McCarthy is looking to add two or three new faces to his squad before the season gets underway against Brentford on August 8.
The Town boss watched David McGoldrick mark his first taste of pre-season with the winner in a 3-2 victory at Cambridge, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Brett Pitman also on target.Ā
āWe played well and certainly showed some quality tonight against a team that I think will do well this season,ā Mick told the Club website.Ā
āIt was a great finish by Didz and a great touch by Ainsley to set him up. It was quality that deserved to win the game.Ā
āArsenal have a happy knack of producing good young players and Ainsley looks an outstanding talent. Heās a lovely young fella as well and has fitted in well into the squad.Ā
āWeāve got 15 or so hard-nosed professionals that I can hang my hat on and the two ākeepers as well and Iām happy with the squad.Ā
āI was talking to my PA, Fran, earlier today about this seasonās team photo and we looked back at last year's. Iām happier where I am now, going into this season than I was this time last year but Iād like to add two or three new faces.ā
Mick also confirmed that young defender Matt Clarke is at Portsmouth with a view to joining them on loan.Ā
