Mick delighted with the goals his side scored and to see his players all get another 45 minutes in the tank despite friendly defeat

Mick McCarthy was pleased to see his players all get another 45 minutes under their belts, despite Town slipping to a narrow defeat to Fortuna Dusseldorf this evening.

The Blues lost 4-3 to their German counterparts- watched on by 600 travelling Town fans- with Freddie Sears, Brett Pitman and Ainsley Maitland-Niles all finding the back of the net.

“It was 45 minutes of really hard, intense football and it was a good workout for us,” Mick told Ipswich Player HD.

“I thought some of the younger lads found it tough and I would be disappointed with the goals we’ve conceded if it was a League game, but we were playing a side who are a week away from starting their season, so we would always be up against it.

“But the goals we scored we top drawer and I was pleased with the efforts. Everyone got another 45 minutes under their belt and that’s what it’s all about at this stage.

“Jonny Parr missed out with a thigh injury, which he sustained in Ireland. It made sense for him to sit this one out because I want him fit for the start of the season and it wasn’t worth any risk.

“We’ve enjoyed it out here in Germany and we’ve been really looked after. It was great to see the fans come over in their numbers to support us as well and I’m sure they will enjoy their night out in Dusseldorf this evening.”
