Striker enjoying first full pre-season with the Blues and says the lads are all gearing up well for the Championship opener next month

Freddie Sears has admitted he wants to hit the ground running as he embarks on his first full pre-season with Town.

The striker, who arrived at Portman Road from Colchester in January, quickly established himself as a fans favourite with the Blues and is now gearing up for the opening game of the season against Brentford in August.

“Pre-season is all about getting fit and getting your match fitness up ahead of that first game against Brentford and I fell all the boys are doing well,” Freddie told Ipswich Player HD.

“It’s important for me personally to have a full pre-season here, after arriving in January, and I’ve really enjoyed it so far.

“It’s been hard work but that’s pre-season for you and I’m just looking to hit the ground running again.

“It’s been a bit strange that we’ve only really had myself and Brett [Pitman] as the two strikers out in Ireland and Germany but with Didz and Murph back involved now we’ve got some real competition for places up front and I think that will bring the best out of all of us.”
