Luke Chambers expresses his delight at seeing close friend Daryl Murphy commit to Town and can't wait to see him back on the pitch

  • Skipper pleased to see striker sign
  • Thanks Dusseldorf for their hospitality
  • Believes Murphy can repeat form this term

Luke Chambers has hailed the runout with Fortuna Dusseldorf as a ‘good workout’ for Blues- and is looking to see teammate Daryl Murphy return to pre-season action soon.

The skipper expressed his delight at seeing Town’s leading scorer from last season pen a new contract last week and believes he can continue his form into this campaign.

“It’s great to see Murph signed up and what a statement from the Club to tie him down,” Luke told the official Club website.

“I’m good friends with Daryl and I’ve been on his case all summer and to be fair to him, he always maintained that he didn’t want to leave.

“Hopefully now he’s all sorted with his future he can go on and have another great season for us.

“Everyone is delighted he’s staying and when you look at our strike-force now with Brett, Freddie and Didz as well, we’re looking very strong in that department.”

The skipper also praised the hospitality of our German friends at Fortuna Dusseldorf who really looked after Mick and the players, before both sides met in an entertaining friendly which Fortuna just edged.

However Luke believes fitness rather than results is more important at this stage.

“It was a hard workout against Fortuna, especially in that heat, but it was a good run out and it’s more fitness under the belt which is what we need at this stage,” he added.

“We’ve been looked after really well by the people of Dusseldorf and it’s been a great trip.

“We’ve had a tour of the stadium, as we were staying in the hotel there and the facilities are just incredible.

“It’s a good linkup between the two clubs and you could see how much the two sets of fans were bonding together. I’m sure it’s something that we will look to do again in the future.”
