We have played better and lost but winning is all that matters now says Mick

Mick McCarthy wasn’t sure Town deserved the three points against Bolton but he was delighted to take them.

Jay Tabb’s second goal of the season was enough to give Blues the win in a game where both teams had chances, particularly in the first-half.

“Whether we deserved the three points, it was negligible but I’ll take it, it was a big win for us,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player.

“We have played better than that and lost and they certainly had their chances but so did we.

“It’s a win and that’s all that counts. We’ve got eight games left and it’s going to be nervy, for the crowd, for the players, for all of us.

“It’s not going to be pretty, with silky football played all over the place, not on pitches that we have got at this stage of the season. It’s about getting across the line and we did that tonight.

“It was important to get that clean sheet as well. That was the bedrock for us before and we need that over the rest of the season.”
