Mick hails progress of team over two years as he predicts last day shoot out for glory

  • Wouldn't bet on the Championship, even if he could!

Mick McCarthy expects the promotion race to go to the last day of the season as he pays tribute to the progress his players have made in being in the thick of that race.

Blues go into the midweek Championship fixtures in sixth place, just three points off the automatic places.

Brentford and Wolves are just off the Play-Off places, with Forest 10 points adrift but on a run of five successive wins.

“The top two remains our aim. If we don’t make it, then we’ll aim for the Play-Offs,” the Town boss told the Club website.

“To be going into March just three points off the automatic promotion places shows you how far we have come over the last couple of years. That is testament to the work the players have put in, they have been fantastic.

“The Championship is a bonkers league. We know that. If I was a betting man, and I’m not - and I can’t bet on football anyway -  I certainly wouldn’t be wasting my money on trying to predict results and what’s going to happen in this league.

“It’s relentless and there will be no let up between now and the end of the season.

“I have no doubts that automatic promotion and the Play-Off places will be going down to the last game of the season because there are some good teams up there. We’re in the mix and that’s great.”
