Mick praise for Town at both ends of the park as Blues move to edge of top six

Mick McCarthy said Town were ruthless at both ends of the pitch after watching his side run out 3-0 winners at Charlton.

A brace from Daryl Murphy and a fifth League goal of the season from Freddie Sears gave Blues a fourth successive win at the Valley and took Town level on points with sixth placed Birmingham.

“It was deserved win and I’m delighted with the performance and delighted with the result, especially with such a fantastic following that we had,” the Town boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“The difference between the teams was that we were ruthless in front of their goal and we were ruthless in front of our own goal.

“We defended well and when they did get through, Gerks has made three fantastic saves. They were important because the momentum can soon change in a game.

“The third goal from Murph was fantastic. We upped the tempo from the throw-in, there were a couple of dummies sold and Murph put it away well.

“I was delighted to see Searsy score as well. No one was more relieved than me. He has been selfless in the way he has played for us but he wants to score goals.”
