MURPH'S IRELAND BOOK EURO SPOT

17 November 2015

Daryl and former Blue Jon Walters play their part as Republic head to France

Daryl Murphy was in the Republic of Ireland side that beat Bosnia in a Play-Off last night to book their place in next summer’s European Championship finals.

The Town striker lined up alongside former Blue, Jon Walters, in attack for the Republic and the two combined for Ireland’s opening goal, Murph’s cross judged to have been handled inside the box by Ervin Zukanovic and Walters scored from the penalty.

Former Town loanee Asmir Begovic was in goal for Bosnia and he was beaten again in the second-half by Walters as the Republic completed a 2-0 win on the night and a 3-1 victory on aggregate.

Just to add to the Town connection, former Blues’ boss Roy Keane was in the Ireland dug-out as assistant to Martin O’Neill.

Murph, who was replaced by Shane Long in the second-half, will be hoping to be included in the squad for the finals in France next summer, with Town team-mate David McGoldrick also in contention.
