Boss rules out bringing in replacement for Ryan and looks for someone to step up and make an impact

Mick McCarthy says he won’t be looking to bring in a replacement for Ryan Fraser and the opportunity is there for someone from the squad to step up and grab their chance.

The winger, on loan from Bournemouth, has been ruled out for two months after suffering medial ligament damage while away with Scotland’s U21s.

“It’s a big blow for Ryan obviously and there is no hiding the fact that it’s a big disappointment for us as well,” said the Town boss ahead of Blues’ clash against Huddersfield at the weekend.

“He’s a really talented footballer who has made a big impact at the Club, both on and off the pitch.

“We thought at first it might be a cruciate ligament injury and that would be six to nine months so obviously we are relieved in a way.

“He’s back with Bournemouth at the moment and will do his early rehab there before coming back to us.

“We will miss Ryan but we won’t be bringing anyone in to replace him. We have four wingers with Tommy Oar, Larsen Toure, Ainsley [Maitland Niles] and Ryan and it’s an opportunity for someone to come into the team and take their chance.”
