Young Blues exit the competition early on as Leiston hit Town for six at Victory Road

Town's U18s have been knocked out of the Suffolk Premier Cup, after being beaten 6-2 by an experienced Leiston side.

The young Blues, which consisted almost entirely of Academy Scholars, proved no match for Leiston at Victory Road, who progress to the next round.

Jacob Marsden made his first start in almost 18 months following injury, whilst George Fowler skippered the side in defence.

However Leiston showed why they sit second in the Ryman Premier League with a strong display.

The hosts opened the scoring just before half-time through Gareth Heath, before the lead was doubled from the penalty spot. Marsden felled Heath in the box and Joe Francis converted the spot-kick with ease.

The Blues did pull a goal back soon after, with Keiron Cathline heading home from a Ross Meldrum centre but within 60 seconds Leiston restored their advantage, with Leon Ottley-Gooch heading home.

Leiston made it 4-1 soon after, as the Blues failed to clear their lines from a corner and the resulting goalmouth scramble saw the ball deflect past Marsden and into the net via a Town defender.

A cool finish from Sam Ford saw Town pull a goal back but the game was sealed by an injury time strike from Stuart Boardley for Leiston, who helped the ball over the line following a Heath flick to ensure the home side progressed to the next round.

Town: Marsden, Fowler (Woolfenden 74), Salaudeen, Cathline, Daly, Maynard, Jones, Meldrum (Muamba 74), McKendry, Ingram (Downes), Ford. Subs not used: Wright, Fullwood.
