BOSS RELISHING UNITED CHALLENGE

23 September 2015

Mick looking for players to be inspired but he has eye on the real goal

Mick McCarthy is relishing tonight’s game at Old Trafford but admits he will have one eye on Saturday’s clash against Bristol City when he considers his line-up.

The boss has changed his team around for the previous Capital One Cup ties and that is in his thinking ahead of the third round trip to Manchester United.

It will be the first time many of the squad will have played at Old Trafford and Mick is looking for the occasion to act as an inspiration to his players over the rest of the season.

“It’s a great tie for us, an exciting tie and we are all looking forward to it,” the boss told Ipswich Player HD.

“The incentive is there for the players. It’s going to be a big crowd, a fantastic atmosphere. They are playing at an unbelievable ground, one of the biggest clubs in the world. You want to be doing that every season.

“They call it the Theatre of Dreams, well it can be the theatre of nightmares if things are not going well for you there.

“I doubt they will want to get knocked out of the competition against lower league opposition on their home ground. They will see it as a trophy they can win so we know what the challenge is for us but it’s one we are all relishing.

“It’s a great game for us but we all know where our priority lies and we have Bristol City on Saturday, our third game in a week.

“We are flying back but still won’t get back until two or three in the morning. Last time we played on a Wednesday, we lost up at Preston in the FA Cup. We got slapped at Millwall on the Saturday and I’m conscious of that, especially as Bristol have got a clear week.”

Subscribers to Ipswich Player can see the full interview with Mick now, with live commentary of tonight’s game also available. Kick-off 8pm, with Town taking 4800 fans to Old Trafford.
