Late Bowen strike sees the Tigers come from behind to take the points as Yorwerth sees red for handball

Two goals in the final minutes, one in stoppage time, saw Hull come from behind to claim a 2-1 victory at Portman Road this evening.

Larsen Toure opened the scoring for the hosts, heading home from a Kundai Benyu corner, but a late penalty from Greg Luer and an even later strike from Jarrod Bowen saw the Tigers grab all three points in the latest U21 Development game.

Josh Yorwerth and Michael Crowe slotted straight into Town’s starting XI having returned from international duty at the weekend- Josh played the full 90 minutes against Luxembourg on Friday night while Michael watched on from the subs bench.

The first half was relatively incident free, although Town were looking the more dangerous, and that proved to be the case as Toure headed the Blues in front on the half-hour mark. The Guinean international glanced home Benyu’s corner from the centre of the box to score from the first real chance of the match.

Corners were proving to be the main threat for Town as Yorwerth connected with another Benyu cross, almost doubling the lead right on the stroke of half-time. His header from the edge of the six yard box, however, just shaved the outside of the post, concluding the action for the first period.

The Tigers came out in the second half looking like more of an attacking threat and Matty Dixon almost levelled the scores early on, as his rasping effort from outside the area dipped and hit the top of Crowe’s net on its way over.

They did level, however, but it took until the last five minutes for the visitors to get it. Adding to the disappointment, Yorwerth was given his marching orders for deliberately beating Jarrod Bowen’s goalbound effort off the line with his hand. Luer was on hand to slot home the resulting penalty, sending Crowe the wrong way to set up a grandstand finish.

It was to be just that as Hull went on to grab a very late winner. Bowen smashed home a volley from the penalty spot after Ter Horst had burst to the touchline and laid it on a plate for him. The goal deep into stoppage time was enough to give the Tigers all three points at Portman Road.
