Midfielder wants to perform well for the Blues to enhance his chances of turning out regularly for Australia

Town new boy, Tommy Oar, was an unused substitute for Australia as they strolled to a 5-0 victory over Bangladesh.

The win keeps the Socceroos on maximum points for their World Cup 2018 qualification campaign having now won their first two matches.

Tommy has already played over 30 matches for his country at the age of 23 and believes that moving to Town will help make him a regular in Ange Postecoglou’s squad.

“Being Australian, there’s a big focus on English football with the Premier League and the Championship especially,” Tommy told Ipswich Player HD.

“There are a lot of Australian players here as well, so when a club like Ipswich comes up it looks like a great move and I’m really happy it worked out.

“Looking at other Australians players playing in the Championship and the Premier League at the moment, they are all mainstays in the national team so for me it’s a no-brainer coming not only to Ipswich but to England to further my international career.”

He will look to add to his tally of caps as they continue their quest for World Cup qualification against Tajikistan on Tuesday at the Central Stadium in Dushanbe.
