OAR PLAYS HIS PART FOR SOCCEROOS

8 September 2015

Town winger comes off the bench to set up Tim Cahill as Australia keep up perfect record in qualifying

Tommy Oar played his part as Australia defeated Tajikistan 3-0 in Dushanbe.

The winger, who penned a two-year deal with the Blues ahead of the game against Brighton last month, came off the bench and set up a goal for Tim Cahill in injury time with a pinpoint cross.

The Socceroos comfortably won the qualification match, which sees them maintain their 100% record in qualifying for Russia 2018.

Meanwhile Dylan Connolly could earn another international cap for Ireland’s U21 side, although it will have to come from the bench after being named as a sub by Noel King.

The Greens face Andorra in a European Championship qualifier, which has now kicked off (4pm UK time).

Another young Irish Blue, Adam McDonnell, earned his third Republic of Ireland U19 cap last night, although couldn’t help his side slipping to a 2-1 defeat to Italy.

Elsewhere, Ainsley Maitland-Niles- on loan at Town from Arsenal- was an unused sub as England U19’s drew 1-1 with Croatia in Zagreb.
