Defender delighted to see Town get back to winning ways and to cap it off with a goal and a clean sheet

Tommy Smith labelled it ‘the perfect night’ as his goal ensured Town got back to winning ways with a 1-0 win away at Leeds.

Following Friday night’s defeat to Reading, the defender believes this result can be just what is needed to prove the Blues have still got what it takes to be resilient and pick up important results.

“It was a really good away performance and we’re buzzing with the three points,” Tommy told Ipswich Player HD.

“We got back to our usual: hard work and grinding out results. If we can play that extra football on top of that then great, but it’s all about picking up that three points.

“It’s always nice to score a goal but it’s the clean sheet that’s most pleasing. As a back four we have conceded too many goals recently so it’s really nice to get that clean sheet.

“It would have been harsh if Leeds had got that penalty decision, but they were always going to have their chances. I think the referee got it right and I’m glad he stayed strong.

“The win sets us up nicely for Birmingham but we’ve got to carry on that form we’ve shown tonight.”

Tommy was full of praise for the travelling Town support who once again made turned up in high numbers to support the team, with 520 making the trip to Yorkshire.

“Every away trip we seem to take a massive number of fans and it was a long trip on a Tuesday night. I can’t say how much respect we have for them. They’re second to none.”
