Dozzell and Kenlock on target as young Blues come from behind to take all three points against the Tykes

Town’s U21 Development side defeated Barnsley 2-1 today in South Yorkshire, with Andre Dozzell firing a late winner for the Blues.

Mark Kennedy’s side came from behind to take all three points, with Myles Kenlock also on target in a fine team performance.

Kundai Benyu continued his return from injury by starting in midfield alongside Adam McDonnell and it was the latter who had a great chance to open the deadlock on the half hour mark.

Shane McLoughlin was spent sprawling in the area by the Tykes’ ‘keeper to earn the Blues a penalty, but the stopper made amends by pushing McDonnell’s spot-kick around the post.

The home side took full advantage four minutes later and they caught Town on the break to open the scoring, firing low beyond Michael Crowe.

However the Blues regrouped and went in level at the break, with Kenlock heading home at the back-post on the stroke of half-time- rising high to meet a pinpoint James Blanchfield centre.

Town grew into the game and deservedly took the lead with 10 minutes remaining, with midfielder Dozzell curling home a 25 yard free-kick that went in off the underside of the crossbar.

The game could have wrapped up in the final 10 minutes but neither McDonnell or Monty Patterson could find a way through, but in the end it didn’t matter as Town left with all three points.

Town: Crowe, Emmanuel, Fowler, Smith, Kenlock, Dozzell, Benyu, McDonnell, Blanchfield, Brown (trialist), McLoughlin. Subs: Marsden, Salaudeen, Downes, McKendry, Patterson.
