Police advice with traffic restrictions in place for derby day

Supporters are advised to get to Portman Road early for Sunday’s derby with traffic restrictions in place around the ground.

Access to Portman Road will be restricted before and during the match and closed for a short period of time after the game.

Availability of parking spaces at the Portman Road Car Park will be greatly reduced, and there will also be road closures in Portman Road and in Princes Street at the junctions of Civic Drive, Chancery Road, Chalon Street and Commercial Road.

The pedestrian access from Cardinal Park to Princes Street known as ‘Sedan Walk’ will also be temporarily closed.

Chief Superintendent Louisa Pepper said: “I would ask that anyone planning to be in the town centre area of Ipswich on Sunday takes note of the road closures and congestion expected.

“We want both sets of supporters to enjoy the game in a responsible and respectful way.

“Arrangements are being put in place to ensure supporters can get safely into the ground and police and stewards will be working together to maintain public safety throughout the operation.”

“Our policing will be both firm and friendly.  We will be dealing with fans as they would expect to be treated themselves and we hope that people enjoy the match sensibly and in the right spirit.”

Town’s Fanzone opens at 9.30am with alcohol served from 10.00am. The bar in the Blue Inn marquee has been substantially extended, with ‘satellite bars’ also in operation.

Food will be available with live music provided by Talk of the Town. There will be the normal activities for younger Blues fans as well.

Kick-off at Portman Road is midday.
