Premier League loanee aiming to help fire Town towards the top flight as he pays tribute to the Blue Army
The 22-year-old midfielder has joined the Club from Premier League Crystal Palace until the end of the season in what will be his fourth loan spell at Town.
Joniesta, as he is nicknamed, is currently sidelined with an ankle injury but is back running and expects to be fit around the first week in October - and he can’t wait to get going.
“I got caught with a bad tackle in our last pre-season game but I’m three weeks down the line now and I’m running okay now. Hopefully I’ll be back before the international break in October,” Jonny told Ipswich Player HD.
“With no loans after today, we had to get it done now and when I knew Ipswich wanted me, it was a no-brainer.
“I’ve had some great times at Ipswich and played some of the best football of my career here, especially in the first spell I had.
“TC [Terry Connor] and the manager know how to get the best out of me. They have shown faith in me. I want to repay them for that.
“I feel loved here and that is one of the main reasons I’ve come back. I can still remember the fans’ reaction when I made my debut at Yeovil and it carried on from there. Their support is a massive part of me coming here again.
“Having played for Wales on the world stage in the summer [in the Euros], I didn’t want to sit around and play U21s again, it was important to get out and play first-team football for the season and I’m thrilled that it’s going to be here.
“As I said, I’ve had some great memories at this stadium and I want to enjoy that again this season.
“Ipswich have been in and around the Play-Offs over the last two or three years and are trying to get into the Premier League. I’m here to try and help them do that. I’d like to think I can create chances and score a few goals. I have done it before here and I’m aiming to do it again. I can’t wait to get out there.”
