Campaign number 41 for the boss but the adrenaline will be pumping as strong as ever as Town kick-off against Barnsley

Mick McCarthy is relishing the start of another season as Town get the campaign underway against his hometown club, Barnsley on Saturday.

It will be the Town boss’ 41st season in football and the adrenaline will be pumping as strong as it was when he first put on a Tykes shirt.

“You can tell in training this week that we are close to kick off,” writes Mick in his column in Saturday’s matchday programme.

“There has been more zip about the work the players have done. More intensity.

"The adrenaline is flowing, the excitement, the anticipation. It’s all there for me as well as the players. I’d worry if it wasn’t.

“What’s our aim for this season? The same as it is every season for me, whether it be at Ipswich or any other club I’ve worked at. To finish as high as possible. We will aim for the top two, if not then the Play-Offs.

"It’s going to be a very competitive Championship for sure, with some big clubs in the division and some big transfer fees being paid out.

"That means we have to be better organised, have more energy, play better. All those things if we are going to be competitive but one thing we normally are is competitive.”

Kick-off against Barnsley is 3pm with doors to the Club's new Fanzone open at midday to all home fans.
