Community Champions Shaun and Joey meet up with Town ahead of derby and EAAA fly into join them
Shaun had both his legs amputated and Joey sustained serious injuries to his right leg after the pair were hit by a car as they repaired a puncture roadside in July.
Only the fitness of Shaun kept him alive and he was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital.
The two were team-mates at Newmarket Town last season and Blues played in a benefit match for the popular duo to help raise funds for what will be a long rehabilitation process.
Shaun and Joey, along with partners Charlotte and Harriet, were the Club’s guests at the training ground to meet Mick McCarthy and his squad, with the East of England Air Ambulance flying in for a surprise visit. It was the EAAA that flew Shaun to hospital.
“Shaun wants to go and work with younger people who are maybe in a similar situation to him and I’ve no doubt he will do that because he has such a positive personality.”
An appeal to raise £120,000 has been launched to help Shaun walk down the aisle to marry Charlotte next summer. Click on https://crowdfunding.justgiving.com/Shaun-Whiter to contribute.
