PITS BACK FOR CARDIFF CLASH

8 December 2016

Blues forward back in the squad after extended break through injury

Town will welcome Brett Pitman back into the squad for the visit of Cardiff City this weekend, with the striker recovering from an ankle injury that has forced him to miss the past 10 weeks of football.

On Monday, the former Bournemouth man got his first taste of action since having to be withdrawn in the 1-0 defeat to Leeds at Elland Road in September as he started in the U23s defeat to Huddersfield at Portman Road.

"He came through 90 minutes for the U23s on Monday night and did  well," Mick McCarthy told Ipswich Player HD.

"He has trained all week and will be in the squad. He's pretty durable but he's been out for 10 weeks and it's impossible to come back, be match fit and battle hardened after that time out."

Elsewhere, Christophe Berra should be fit to play despite picking up a nasty cut on his foot following a challenge from Aaron Wilbraham in the 2-0 loss to Bristol City at the weekend, but Giles Coke, Luke Hyam [knee] and Tommy Smith [back] remain out.
