Blues goalscorer calls on the character of the squad to turn things around

Luke Varney believes Town need the characters in the squad that will rise up to the occasion and impress following the 1-1 draw with Cardiff at Portman Road.

The forward was on the scoresheet for the second time in three matches, but it wasn’t enough to help the Blues to victory despite Bluebirds defender, Sol Bamba being dismissed with 20 minutes to play.

“To add to my tally is pleasing but I’m just concentrating on trying to help the team as much as possible,” he told Ipswich Player HD.

“We need characters at the minute. We need players that will stand up and be counted so hopefully I can keep doing that.

“For 60-70 minutes, or even if it’s 20 minutes I’m here to do as much as I can and give 100%.

“Characters are massive. We’ll be in tomorrow morning and it will be no different. There will be no name-calling, no little circles.

“We know what we’re about, and we’ve had good times but at the minute it’s a little bit sticky so we’ll stick together and the gaffer will be the same.

“Them going down to ten men probably didn’t help us in the end, but it’s something to build on.”
